The moment that changed how I saw "learning" forever

Too often, we mistake learning for action—thinking that reading, watching, or planning is enough.

In this modern day, we can become constipated with information.

Today, I’m going to share with you how one simple moment shifted my mindset—and why that same shift could unlock your next breakthrough.

If you’re ready to stop hesitating and start building, this is for you.

“Knowing” Isn’t Enough

In a previous chapter of my life, I was an auto mechanic.

I worked in a service shop as a general tech—doing oil changes, tire rotations, and minor repairs.

Then one day, my manager, Clarence, pulled me aside. He saw leadership potential in me—and invited me to explore sales.

I started shadowing him as he worked with customers and business partners.

I watched every interaction closely, took mental notes, and soaked in the lessons he shared.

Then one morning, I walked in and asked,“What’s the lesson today?”

Clarence pointed to a phone and a computer and said,This is the lesson.”

I froze.

For weeks, I had studied. I’d read books on sales, observed his every move, even memorized his best lines. But when it came time to do it myself—I hesitated.

I was afraid of making a mistake.

That’s when Clarence told me:“You’ve learned about sales, but you haven’t started learning to sell. There’s a difference between knowing what to do, and doing what you know. You only learn by doing.”

That moment changed everything.

Real learning doesn’t happen in observation—it happens in application.

You don’t build confidence by knowing…You build it by trying, failing, adjusting—and trying again.

It's not just reading, watching, or listening. It’s doing.

You’re going to fail at things, but when you do…show up again and again until the doing becomes natural.

Because knowledge that’s stored is forgettable.

But knowledge that’s applied…That sticks. That transforms.

In other words…Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.

REMEMBER: The aim is not just to acquire information…The goal is to form new habits. To become more effective. To broaden our impact. To create a new way of life.

This will require time, persistence, and most importantly…daily application.

So whatever you're learning right now—don’t stop at knowing.

Practice it. Live it. Make it real.

That’s how change happens. The growth comes in the doing.
