Can a Tiny Shift Redirect Your Future?

Can a subtle shift in your behavior end up changing your outcomes and results?

How important is something like: How you start your mornings. Your self talk. What you focus on. What you consume—Do these small things really matter?

I have a challenge for you: Start prioritizing the small things.

Today, I’ll explain how small changes (good or bad) can make a big difference over time. But first, I’ll share with you a recent conversation I had…

Don’t miss your destination…

I’m having a conversation with a friend, who is in the aviation space.

We’re discussing my non-profit and ways our organizations could partner, then the conversation shifted.

Bringing me into his world of aviation—He starts talking about aerodynamics and begins to share with me this concept called the “1 in 60 rule”.

I wasn’t familiar with it, so I ask him to explain what it means.

He says—“When flying planes, if you’re off by as little as 1 degree on your heading direction, after 60 miles, you’ll be a whole mile off course.”

I’m thinking—“One mile, that could be simple for the pilot to course correct, right?”

He looks at me with a grin on his face and says—“One mile may not sound like much, but over hundreds of miles, that small error could land you in the wrong city—or worse.”

As I thought about this…The same is true in life.

One small habit, one daily decision, even one thought — it may not seem like much now, but over time, it can take you far from where you meant to go… or closer than you ever imagined.

For us to become greater and more impactful leaders…

We have to focus on doing the small things consistently.

Daily steps and gradual progress will build momentum towards your vision.

For example:

  • Waking up 15 minutes earlier and prioritizing your morning routine could help you lead with more clarity and intention.

  • Walking for 10 minutes each day could do wonders for your health and overall mood.

  • Reading for just 15 minutes a day on a specific area you want to grow can boost your knowledge and broaden your expertise.

  • Developing a new and productive habit, over time, can completely change your life experience.

Implementing small, consistent actions can have a significant impact on your life.

Your daily efforts will position you for greater opportunities.

As you honor your commitments you’ll develop more discipline.

Your dedication will build progress towards what you value.

Make that one degree change today—It can result in a mile of change over time.

WAYS TO TAKE ACTION:

Dream big, but start small—Determine how you can break your goals down into actionable steps you can take each day.

  1. Determine what habits can you begin to adopt that will support your goals

  2. Identify what habits you need to eliminate that may be throwing you off course with your goals

  3. Find an accountability partner that can help you stay consistent with these new positive changes you’re aiming to make
