WHO SAID YOU HAD TO PLAY BY THE RULES?

What if you could do what you wanted to do? What if you can become the person you dream of? What if every great idea that you could construct in your mind became a new way of reality in your life? Picture the life of your dreams. (Seriously...right now, imagine your life where everything you desired existed in your reality.)

Now, let's discuss some potential reasons why there's a gap between where we are now and where we seek to be. If you're like most people, after you saw the image of this new life and got excited about it, you immediately began to think of many obstacles, challenges, and limitations that are preventing you from obtaining your desire. I call these impediments "rules to your game". These are rules that you have created and now are abiding and living your life by. Here are some examples:

"What if it doesn't work out?" ( A rule of absolute certainty)

"I haven't done this before and I'm afraid that it won't be good enough." (A rule of insecure potential)

"What will others think about what I'm attempting?" (A rule of opinion-focused living)

"What if it's an epic fail and I make a fool of myself?" (A rule of fearing failure)

These are just a few examples of some of the negative and critical commentary that we each have dancing in our minds. If we live by these rules we will find ourselves full of potential but empty of achievment. We must realize that if we really want to live life at it's fullest and capture our dreams, we have to change the rules to the game and become a game changer. We all experience some form of negative narrative but those that succeed are those that create a shift in their mind. They shift their mind into a success consciousness. Here are a few tips to help you align your life with your dreams and create your own rules to your life:

EXAMINE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU WANT

Socrates once said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." You owe it to yourself to examine who you are, to investigate your strengths, and experiment with your passions. Your experiences and the way you've reacted during these experiences can tell you alot about yourself. Begin to take note of this and start developing an awareness of who you REALLY are, but also realize that life is understood backwards and lived by moving forward.

As you're moving forward, you want to have something that your aiming for. What is your target? What do you really want? Not what someone else wants for your or what you think your life is limited to. That would mean that you're living your life based off the rules of someone else or the rules of your limitations. What do YOU want your life to become. Be specific. Vague goals will produce vague results. Once you have established a clear image of what you want, begin to structure your life around it.

DON'T LIVE BY OTHER'S EXPECTATIONS

Everybody has an opinion. Many times we can have great ideas and dreams in which we never live because we fear the criticism or rejection from others. Someone has told us that we're not good enough and we believed them. We're afraid of moving forward because we don't want to leave old friends and peers behind. As long as you're living to please others you'll never be able to live your destiny and leave your legacy.

I challenge you to really examine some of your decisions and reasons why you do what you do. (I mean really take a look!) I did this for myself and I began to realize alot of the decisions that I was making and things that I was doing was because I was keeping the expectation of others in mind and basing my decisions solely on the opinions of others. Living your dreams may require you to step away from the status quo and do you. We have to be ok with being different, unique, and sometimes go against popular belief. Your uniquness is what makes you who you are so don't conform to meet someone else's expectation. Create the rules to your own expectations.

DISMISS FEAR FROM THE CONVERSATION ABOUT YOUR DREAMS

Fear and doubt are the worst enemies of greatness. They hinder many people from moving forward in life. They have prevented many dreams from living. Fear is actually a rule that we have created for ourselves. It's not to say that we don't feel uncertain or doubtful at times, however just because we experience these feelings doesn't mean we have to play be the rules. This is where courage comes in to play. Mark Twain once said, "Courage is not the absence of fear, it's the resistance to fear, the mastery of fear." What this means is that with courage, we violate the rules that have been put in place in our life by fear, doubt, and even our insecurities. If you allow courage to rewrite the rules to your life you will be able to stare down uncertainty and move forward with your life. It enables you to laugh in the face of danger and trust that you will find a way to succeed. As long as fear is dominating the conversation about your dreams it will dominate the actions you take to obtain the dream, and fear driven actions will not produce the results of success. Eliminate the rules that fear has established for your life and allow courage to rewrite the rulebook.

Never forget that we each are creators and as creators we have full freedom to develop the life of our dreams. Let's identify the rules that we have set in place for our life and let's eradicate any and all of the rules that are not serving us. You don't have to play by the rules when you can create your own. Let's elevate!
